Question about live tests.

Main Post:

So I did my first live test today and now I'm having some doubts which I want to avoid next time. Two of the three people from the company had their cameras off and didn't introduce themselves. Would you say this was usual? And how do I know for sure they are from the company they say they were from? Because apart from them saying I'm X from Y, how would I really know> I had to login to my account of their website, so it is not even as if they were showing me any new prototypes or anything. Thank you

Top Comment: I use UserTesting for research (and sometimes I participate as a tester too). As the moderator, it's normal to invite observers who will not speak & camera off because they're eager to listen in. The mdoerator should've addressed this and maybe said something along the lines of, "hey FYI we have a few people on the call who is a part of our team. They are here to listen in but it'll just me you and I having a conversation..." It's the moderator's job to make sure you are comfortable. Don't be afraid to ask questions or to address any concerns. Maybe next time before they start questions, you can ask, "what are these people doing here?" The live test is a time for us to have a conversation and to learn from your perspective and we want you to feel comfortable and at ease when answering our questions :)

Ever felt totally inadequate in a live test?

Main Post:

Had a live test where even though I believe I answered the screener tests with honesty and sincerity - the questions in the live test just felt out of my league. I tried my best to pull out as many decent answers, opinions and observations as I could but sometimes it feels like it isn't enough for the moderator.

I appreciate that they emphasise that there are no right or wrong answers but in that test in particular, I felt like I was so inadequate with answering their questions :')

How do you personally deal with this feeling during a live test? Do you think it bothers the moderators a lot? Does it mean we're not truly qualified to take the live test in the first place?

Top Comment: I did a live with a hair care company recently. She was asking the dumbest questions like “how does this shampoo make you feel emotionally?” And I tried my best but I could tell I just wasn’t giving her the answers she wanted. I didn’t lie at all in the screeners, it was just very clear she was looking for a certain kind of response. The next day I saw my 5 stars go down to 4.5 but with no visible new rating, so I’m 99% sure she gave me a hidden low rating. Guess who’s never buying their products again 🙋🏼‍♀️😂

Live Test Schedule Through Message

Main Post:

Hi All,

I took a short screener recently in a $4 test which stated it could lead to a live session test. I got a message in UT saying they want to interview me and there was a link in the message to setup a time which I did. I didn’t see a banner pop up on my dashboard about the live test but I did get a confirmation email from UT with the info.

I messaged UT about this and the auto response said don’t accept tests this way and the customer will compensate me directly. This seemed strange since it was all done through UT and their scheduling system.

I then message the customer who said I would be compensated through UT.

I haven’t done the interview yet and it’s scheduled next week but does anyone have experience with this kind of situation? Thanks!

Update: the contacted me and said they made an admin error and then scheduled through the UT dashboard so now it all shows up there.

Top Comment: If you get confirmation email from UT, and scheduled via UT, you should be okay. And if you get reminder emails about it, too, then it should be okay It's a bit odd, though, that it isn't showing up on your dashboard

Live test isn't getting scheduled when I select a time!

Main Post:

I have been selected for the same $60 live test twice now, and every time I pick a time on the calendar and click accept, I get this same message and it doesn't seem to go through. When I get back to the dashboard, it shows me the same confetti and "Great, you've been selected!" or whatever message. Has anyone else had this before??

Top Comment: Crazy, this just happened to me with a $60 dollar one and then the page refreshed, I picked the date and it said, you have chosen date go back to dahboard....i did and its missing :( I think in between the glitch, someone chose my time slot, i'm so sadddd, would have been my first %60 live one.

First live test & and preferred tester offer

Main Post:

I just compelled my first live test. I’ve always shied away from them as I was nervous I’d say the wrong thing or freeze up when speaking, but it went really well!

Question- I’m a user of the customers services, which I brought up during the test; afterwards they asked if they could put me on a ‘preferred tester’ list so they could contact me directly for any future tests. Has this happened to anyone before and if so was it still facilitated through UserTesting?

Top Comment: Ah lucky! I once had a tester who did a 6 month testing of a prototype. We'd have weekly meeting of $60. It was wonderful.

Live test scheduled just hours before test…

Main Post:

I’ve never had a live test scheduled just a few hours before the actual event. I scheduled a live test at noon today for 3pm. Is there a higher chance this will be a no show or cancelled? I’ve never had one cancel this close or had no one show. Will I get $10 if it doesn’t happen?

Top Comment: I've scheduled tests within an hour before the test too. Haven't had a no-show yet. If they don't show up, stay on the call for 15-30 mins so that you can still get paid.
